Stop #5 Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN

Event #5: Cub Foods and Rainbow Foods Store Remotes

Minneapolis, St. Paul, MN

June 26 - 28

Miles from home: 660
It's Friday June 26th and it looks like we're going to actually leave on time! This is Nick's first tour trip and we are all eager to show him a good time. The Twin Cities is a great trip because you hop on I-94 and it's a 330 mile straight shot.

Our first destination is Cub Foods in Stillwater, MN. Our radio station friends from KZJK, (Jack FM), Dan and Tina, help us get as many people as possible signed up for our Summer Tour Sweepstakes. I mean who doesn't want to win a Vespa?

After a long travel and work day, Nate, Nick and I walk over to Ray J's. Usually when you get wings they give you tiny unfulfilling pieces, but here at Ray J's you get the whole wing! They're huge! The wings are great, but the burgers are even better. We have this brilliant idea to get different sandwiches, but cut them into 3 pieces each, and then share them with each other. Now that is teamwork. We are just finishing as Nathaniel shows up, I have this funny feeling that the doggy bags won't make it home.

Saturday morning arrives, it is a cool and slightly cloudy day at the Cub Foods in Woodbury, MN. The people at Cub were ecstatic for our arrival. The manager Jeff is a great help! People love the Palermo's Rustico here and we just opened up an extra case to serve, this place is bustling with action.

In the afternoon, we head to Cub Foods in St. Paul, MN. We are joined by our friends from WLTE-FM including, Cheryl from the morning show. Inside the store the display is magnificent and when they come out of the store, we give them a hot, fresh sample. People are always curious when you have a beautiful pizza trailer like ours. You hear questions like: What are you guys doing here? Is this a restaurant? Where are you from? You came all the way from Milwaukee? I like to answer all those questions because we need to have informed consumers!

After the radio remotes we head to the Oakwood Park Disc Golf Course. I can't tell you who is winning but we are having a great time! Since we've been outside all day it is time to have a great meal. We go to the Muddy Pig in St. Paul and to our surprise the Muddy Pig is having their 7th birthday party. This place is packed with Minnesotans! The Pig has a great atmosphere, awesome dinners, and a variety of brews. After we make it home, it is unanimous: Saturday was the most fun we've had on tour.

Sunday came quickly; we have to get on the road early to drive out to Bloomington, home of the Mall of America. (If only we had time to shop!) The weather is putting a mild damper on the turnout at Rainbow Foods. It is so gorgeous, although a little windy with gusts up to 40 mph, that it seems like many people have better things to do than to go grocery shopping. Those that make it out are very satisfied with only the finest of Palermo's product. The ladies from KQQL, Kool-108 are helping us give our napkins, coupons, and bumper stickers to the people, instead of having them blow away.

Our final stop is just down I-494 in Eden Prairie. We are joined by JD, Amy, and Kia from KEEY or K102, Today's Country. While we are handing out the most perfect samples, they are handing out tickets to the Country Jam Festival. I don't know if anyone knows this but Nick loves country! We tolerate his singing, but when he starts line-dancing, I have to give him a time-out.
Eden Prairie marked our 11th radio remote. I would say we are getting better with each event that passes. Not to mention our "Radio Station Swag Box" is getting real, real full. A grand total of 226 pizzas equaling 2372 slices were given away over the long weekend.
